Your Questions Answered

Do I Qualify?

If you are permanently employed, paid under PAYE, drive your own vehicle to and from temporary workplaces, and are not based on any one site for 24 months you may be eligible to claim. Please contact us for more information.

Many people have been told by the Inland Revenue that they were not eligible for a tax refund, but thanks to Rift successfully compiling their claims, many clients have received money that the Inland Revenue have been sitting on - but which is rightfully the worker's to claim.

How do I make a claim?

Complete our pack for the relevant tax year and return it to us together with all requested information. We produce a tax return, which is sent to you for approval and signature, we then forward this to the Inland Revenue who will in turn process the tax return and send any refund to our clients account. Our agreed fee is deducted from the amount and the remainder will be sent to you by cheque or paid directly into your bank account.

What if I cannot find my P.60?

Do not worry, we should be able to obtain the PAYE and tax details from the Inland Revenue after you have signed the form 64-8 authorising us as your Agents. Alternatively you might find that information on your final payslip for the relevant tax year.

What if I cannot remember all the sites I was working on?

Ideally you might have kept a diary or timesheets of the sites you were working on. If you have not kept records this will not disqualify you from making a claim as there are other methods we can use to obtain the information we need. Please give one of our claim advisors a call and they will be able to assist you.

What is a tax year?

From 6th April to 5th April each year.

How much do you charge?

Rift’s fees are competitive and if the Inland Revenue do decide to ask further questions about your claim we will deal with their enquiry on your behalf for no extra charge.

Rift charge a flat fee of 28% plus VAT (minimum charge £95.00 plus VAT)

What does no refund-no fee mean?

If we are not able to process a claim for you we do not charge you for our work.

How far back can I claim?

You are able to claim back for the previous six years.

How much will I get back?

This depends on the number of business miles you have driven (the more business miles you drive the larger the potential refund). It will also depend on any non taxed expenses your employer gave you as these have to be deducted from any claim.

Rift has assisted some of it's clients recoup as much as £1,000 each tax year. The average refund secured using Rift's advice and assistance is approximately £600 - £800 each tax year.

When will I receive my refund?

It usually takes the Inland Revenue about 8-12 weeks to process tax refunds.

Do I need to have any receipts?

Receipts are not necessary under the temporary workplace scheme but would become useful if you were claiming for a reimbursement of travel whilst using public transport. If you are making an additional claim for lodging or other work expenses (tools etc) then you will need to retain your receipts.

What happens if the Inland Revenue raise an Enquiry?

The Inland Revenue randomly select Tax Returns for an enquiry, this means that they wish to ask some questions to support the tax return.

Rift is unique because we carry out thorough checks on the eligibility of each clients claim and thanks to our knowledge and expertise, our ‘enquiry rate’ is less than 1%. If the Inland Revenue do decide to ask further questions about your claim, Rift will, for no further payment deal with the Inland Revenue on your behalf.
